This year’s Call of Duty has apparently been leaked prior to its official announcement.

Activision have already confirmed that we will be getting a new edition of Call of Duty this year, but up until now, we haven’t heard anything specific about the project.
That is until the other day, when Eurogamer revealed that their sources had backed up a recent tweet leaking this year’s Call of Duty title to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Call of Duty leaker Okami posted a mock box art leaking the title. This artwork will obviously not be anything like the actual artwork but if history predicates anything, this will definitely be the title, since he’s been on the mark with most of his insider information in the past.
So, if this really is the truth then the next Call of Duty will be returning to the original historical setting that Treyarch’s first Black Ops game took place in, and also, in a similar fashion to last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it looks like we’re getting a soft reboot on the Black Ops series.
The Black Ops story began in the 1960s, before leaping into the future with the sequels. The further into the future the games leapt the more it became clear Call of Duty was having an identity crisis and the quality of the games suffering were suffering as a result of this.
Many fans really didn’t appreciate how the action had gone from pretty realistic warfare game to a futuristic Halo-like, wall running, boosting cartoon-esque catastrophe.
Luckily, all of that changed last year when the Modern Warfare series was rebooted with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. We saw the return of characters from 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, in an updated setting switching the action to a more modernised warfare story.

The game was an astronomical success and was easily one of the best entries in the franchise.
The game wasn’t without its faults, but it certainly leaves behind a big pair of combat boots for Black Ops to fill. However, if they build on the formula used in Modern Warfare and just add the Black Ops twist to it, this two could quite easily become one of the greatest entries into the Call of Duty series, that we’ve seen to date.
Apparently, the Cold War setting has already been hinted at in Call of Duty: Warzone. There are also rumours that the official revelation will be made within Warzone. Players have managed to find a Cold War spy plane when glitching through walls.
It’s also allegedly tied to the current mystery involving the secret bunkers that have been dormant since the game’s release. Players have recently discovered they can be opened using various methods.
This is all really exciting stuff but we’re still waiting on an official announcement. All we know for sure right now is that we will be getting a new Call of Duty game this year.
