Fans are furious as the last update increased Modern Warfare’s file size up to 222GB for some players.
Even when the game first came out, before Warzone was even a part of the mix. The file size of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was astronomical. Some players were waiting whole weeks to play (granted their internet connection was terrible but that’s not the point is it?)
Just to put things into perspective, here’s a comparison of Modern Warfare’s file size at its launch (on PC) compared to its predecessors.
Obviously, it’s expected that games increase in file size over time as our technology develops we can have larger games because our hardware as enough space, runs fast enough etc. but there’s only a one year gap between Black Ops 4 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare and the file size has more than doubled.
Even taking the fact that Black Ops 4 didn’t have a campaign into consideration shouldn’t make a difference because if we look at the Call of Duty WWII file size, it’s pretty much double that too. More size is good in the sense it means more content but we also want to actually have time to play the game!
When Warzone was added into the game, the file-size inflated like a barrage balloon. Some players’ game sizes have increased above 200GB according to a Subreddit found by US Gamer.
A Reddit user by the name of kiwi_lad_1982 shared a screenshot of the combined Modern Warfare and Warzone files using up 209GB after the game’s most recent update. Another user stated theirs was a whopping 222GB.
Luckily for console players, they have the option to reduce their Modern Warfare file size by deleting files the areas of the game they don’t use. Without this, the increasing file size would be a massive problem as it approaches half the size of an average console hard drive.
Unfortunately, PC players don’t have this luxury. Of course, it’s much easier for them to increase their disk space to a much greater a magnitude so that does even out the playing field a bit but that’s not the point is it?
