Sony is set to take centre stage tonight with their live PS5 event. Hopefully, this means they’re finally going to show us what we’ve all been waiting to see. One thing that we were not expecting to see anytime soon is the price tag attached to Sony’s next-gen console.
A listing that was spotted on Amazon before it was promptly removed, apparently revealed that the PS5 will be available for pre-order at a whopping price of £599. Included within this particular console would be a 2TB SSD drive.
This apparent leak was spotted and posted by user, justsuperman on hotukdeals.com.
It’s possible this listing could be fake or even a dummy listing for when these details are revealed, and the console is available for pre-order. This is something Amazon often does to prevent delays in their product listings. However, if this is true someone over at Sony is in a world of trouble.
Some might say that this gargantuan price tag couldn’t possibly be the real one, especially when comparing it to the £349 price tag of the PS4 during its initial release. But this does match up with comments made by Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment in a recent interview with Games Industry where he said:
“I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don’t necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games… all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform.”
Whether or not this is true we will have to wait and see. There’s a slight possibility we could find out tonight at 9pm UK time when Sony airs their live PS5 event where they promise to show us “The Future of Gaming”.
