The Mafia Twitter account recently began posting after being dead for nearly two years. This led fans to speculate that we were going to get a new instalment to the series. It has now been revealed by 2K Games that they are planning to release a project entitled Mafia Trilogy for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The teaser shows footage from the different titles in the Mafia Trilogy, Mafia, Mafia II and Mafia II, promising us a full reveal on May 19. Which is now less than a week away, so there’s not long to wait to find out the ins and outs of the remaster will include as well as details about the game’s availability (release date, platforms, price etc.)
What the project seems to be is a remaster of the original trilogy. So, it’s safe to bet that this would probably include things like improved game mechanics, better controls and additional content, as well as seeing all of the old content from the original games polished and brought up to today’s standards.
The first entry into the series, Mafia, in particular, will be getting a significant update. It was originally released in 2002, and a lot has changed since then. So, this will probably be more of a remake than a remaster.
The last entry into the Mafia series, Mafia III was released back in 2016. It was developed by Hangar 13, one of 2K’s newest studios. The story revolves around Lincoln Clay, a recently returned Vietnam war veteran who starts his own organised crime faction in a New Orleans-esque city by the name of New Bordeaux.
The Mafia Trilogy teaser features the Hangar 13 logo at the end, so it would seem they are also working on this game.
The first two entries in the trilogy revolved around the Italian-American mob. The main character from Mafia II, Vito Scaletta returns in Mafia III as one of the main characters.
It also worth pointing out the fast-approaching release dates of the next-generation consoles, the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, and the conveniently timed announcement of the Mafia: Trilogy remake.
It’s still unknown if we will see a next-gen release but it seems highly likely. However, we do know that the PC version will be available on Steam and the Epic Game Store.
