With the cancellation of E3 2020 being announced yesterday fans were left to wonder what would been on the cards at this years expo. Today, we had a disappointing revelation that something really exciting was set to happen. Because this year WB Games were set to hold their first ever E3 press conference.
Kotaku’s Jason Schreier confirmed this tweeting:
Part of their show was going to be a first look at the previously rumoured new addition to the Batman Arkhamverse, alongside this we were going to see what rocksteady have been working on since the release of Arkham Knight in 2015, on top of this we were also going to get an update on the Harry Potter RPG, a game that which footage of leaked out back in 2018.
So far we only know about the above mentioned games and the ‘other’ projects Schreier mentions will remain unknown for the time being. There has been some speculation surrounding Injustice 3 being a possibility and also another addition to the middle earth series.
What we do know is that all of the companies involved with E3 have made it abundantly clear that their planned announcements will still go ahead and the cancellation of the event will not affect the information that is released or the games themselves. However, its unknown if it will all be released over the same period in June or some other time later in the year. One thing that should be noted is that this could possibly have some seriously negative effects on future E3 expos if companies should decide to put there own events together as a result of E3 2020’s cancellation.
Things are not looking good for E3 at this moment in time. Even before the coronavirus scare many participants (both organisers and developers) had dropped out. Geoff Keighley, a long time E3 colloborator and the man that hosted E3 coliseum being the one that stands out the most. It’s unknown the exact reason he dropped out he just said it was a difficult decision. So it seems like there may be other things at play behind the scenes. Another dropout that would have no doubt hurt the event is Sony, who are planning to release their next-gen console the PlayStation 5 later this year.
